Katie & Jonathan

9.30.17

Katie & Jonathan have both lived in Brooklyn for over 10 years. It's where they met, fell in love, and built a home together. It was important to share their Brooklyn life with loved ones traveling from all over the world to celebrate their special day. Katie & Jonathan had attended enough weddings to know they didn't want anything stuffy or conventional. While they did maintain a few elements of tradition, the couple decided to skip the wedding party, walk down the aisle to Katie's favorite hip hop song, and write their own personal vows. They aimed to throw one big chic and beautiful, but relaxed, dinner & dance party. With all this in mind, the decor and atmosphere of 501 Union was the perfect setting to host 135 of their closest friends and family.

in her own words...

"We got engaged in September 2016 at Longest Acres Farm in Vermont, where we Airbnb'd a cabin for my birthday weekend. I had a hunch something was up because he kept declaring it 'the best weekend ever' with the slyest little grin.

On the second day, Jonathan handed me one final birthday present - a photo book he made of all the big and little moments we'd experienced together over the past few years. When I got to the poem at the end, Jonathan got down on one knee. By that time, I was so blinded by tears I couldn't even see what was going on, and he was so nervous he forgot to open the ring box. The emotions, the setting, the ring...all of it was pure magic."

THE ORLA GOWN  |  Katie knew she wanted something modern and sleek yet had movement to it, a dress she would be comfortable hosting a dinner party in.  She coincidentally happened to visit Lovely Bride NY during an AG trunk show.

"It was only the 5th dress I tried on in the whole process, but as soon as I put it on, I just knew. The kind of knowing where my mind fast forwarded and I could see myself gliding down the aisle and having our first dance. It made me feel so beautiful and chic - like a true Brooklyn bride."
